Crazy in CA!

It has been a bit crazy out in CA what with the move and all but we are slowly starting to get settled into the new place. The house has forced Jack to take his first bath in a real tub vs. the sink because the split sink won't accomodate a baby.

So here is Jack's first tub bath ever! Still with his favorite rubber ducky.

Jack also went for a drive of sorts with Mom in our very own swimming pool.

Tomorrow - Jack takes a real drive around the house!

Baked Fresh, Then Left Here

There was some excitement generated when McDonald's announced they'd be adding fresh baked cookies to their menu. I've always been a sucker for a good cookie. Too bad these aren't good. These taste like the cookies your crazy Aunt Mable bakes using apple sauce instead of butter. These cookies are like the ones on a pot luck dessert table that no one eats, and by the end of the dinner you feel bad for whoever made them because they were the least popular dessert. And these cookies didn't taste "fresh" either. You notice they aren't "freshly" baked, but rather "fresh" baked. Kind of like Wal-Mart donuts, huh Will? McDonald's cookies come in chocolate chip and oatmeal. I won't be trying the oatmeal.

The Changing Face of Spearmint Gum

I realized I had an old school pack of Wrigley's Spearmint in my gum jar alongside a new school pack. The photo seems to indicate that some green food coloring has entered into the classic recipe.

The flavor is virtually the same, although the old version may be the slightest bit sweeter.

Guy's

You know what you never see anymore? Guy's Potato Chips. When I was a kid, seems like you'd see these things all over. Now, hardly anywhere. Well, maybe you still see them in Kansas City, but that's beside the point. Guy's. It's a good chip, if you can find it.

Blog Scores its First Hit from Africa

Not sure if anyone noticed but we've scored our first hit from Africa. It appears to be, more specifically, from Cape Town.

Will the excitement ever stop?

On a crazier note - tomorrow is move day in California. Moving Sucks! Next post from the new cable...

Seinfeld "The Shower Head" Redo

I went to the grocery store today and figured I'd enjoy a Starbucks before heading in. I secured my "medium" Coffee Frap and was enjoying it outside while talking on the phone to my brother. I noticed, and commented on, an older gentleman walking by who reminded me of Seinfeld episode entitled "The Shower Head" in which the landlord installed "low flow" shower heads that didn't have enough pressure to wash the shampoo out of the cast's hair.

We moved onto other topics and then I entered the grocery store. As I was nosing around looking for "long date" milk the "flat haired" man I had noticed earlier excitedly appoached me with a carton of eggs in which one egg was missing. He was proud of himself for checking the eggs and noticing the missing egg. I later saw him in the checkout line and quietly snapped his photo and continued my day.

Chinese Crested Domination Continues

no - not Westminster - that trophy went to the beagle Uno recall. The Ugly Dog Contest once again, however, named a Chinese Crested as its champion. Gus is a three-legged animal with one eye.

Baby Ready to Move??

Jack, while dealing with his first stomach bug, is also getting ready to move. Here he is in front of a packed box. You can see he is not quite 100%.

Here he is, still sick, but perhaps starting to feel a little better.

How Dumb are People?

Here's an add I recently saw selling 50 rare "lincoln" style pennies. In 2009 the reverse of the penny will be changing so you need to act quickly to secure today's penny. Only $19.95 will secure you 50 of these rare specimens. Shipping is free!

Cedar Rapids Flood

Our friend Sara lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Because of that, she has access to some amazing flood photos. Here's one that shows the local A&W Root Beer almost totally covered. Conspiracy theorists may contend, based on this photo, that leaking root beer kegs inside the A&W are actually the cause of the flooding. Maybe Sara will be willing to lap up some of the brown liquid and let us all know if it's root beer or muddy water. Also, maybe Sara can tell us what the hell a "Piza Burger" is, or was.

1134 Hill Street

While Mom was visiting in Lincoln, we happened by Hill Street. Mom was able to track down the house where she first lived with Dad after they were married. 1134 Hill Street.

Baby Likes "Beef"

The latest way to get Jack to laugh is to jump around and say "beef".

Supernova Mountain Dew

There are three new flavors of Mountain Dew in stores. The one that looked the best to me is called Supernova. It's a strawberry melon flavored drink with ginseng added. It's not bad, as it tastes about like Fanta strawberry soda, but it's nothing you'd really want to drink more than once. That is of course, unless you're a strawberry soda nut. The other two new flavors, each with equally meaningless names, have some kind of blue raspberry flavor or bubble gum or something like that. I forget actually. The new flavors claim to be "dew drinker designed." I guess that means thirteen year old skateboard punks came up with them. Buy this stuff fast if you want it try it. It's not good enough to be around for long.

New Mystery Doritos Flavor

It sounds like innocent fun; buying a bag of mysteriously flavored Doritos and trying to guess the flavor. Problem is, the Doritos company (is it Frito Lay?) doesn't hold up their end of the bargain in this mystery chip game. What I mean is, if I'm going to spend my money on an unknown chip flavor, Doritos should have the duty to make said chip taste good. These are HORRIBLE. I'll save you the trouble of guessing. It's a sweet lime flavor. It's another sugar chip! No spice, no cheesy zip. There is nothing present in these things that makes a regular Dorito taste good. I guess you could eat these lemon lime nightmares for dessert. Don't make me puke!

Minnesota

We took a road trip to the Twin Cities to watch the Yankees take on the Twins.

Each major league ball park has its gourmet specialties. For the Twins, the specialty is pan fried walleye. It's the first pro ballpark I've seen to serve lake fish. We did not sample the walleye platter.

The game we saw was entertaining because the score was tight the whole time. The game went twelve innings with the Yanks taking it in the end.

On the morning of gameday, we met up with Mullins' sister Sarah for breakfast at the famous Key's Cafe & Bakery in downtown St. Paul. She is seen here along side Erin's cousin Ryan.

Over breakfast, Sarah was able to confirm a story Mullins had told me about her Toyota Corolla. In the past, Sarah enjoyed driving more exciting, sportier vehicles than the Corolla. The problem was, these sporty rides would always break down. Mullins helped convince her that a reliable car like the Corolla would give her more free time since she wouldn't be forever heading to the mechanic. Sarah made the trade off. Now, each time she gets into her dull, but reliable Corolla, she is reminded by an ever hanging 3M Brand sticky note that not having to worry about a lemon gives her more time for doing other stuff.
