Time to take out the trash?

We went to a birthday party for a friend this week-end and discovered the trash can was long overdue to be taken out.

Yes - it's been since at least October....had I been on my A-game I would have helped by taking the Coke points I see on the 12-packs in the picture!

Visiting Flashback

So that new 70's dance club "Flashback" finally opened. We went to check it out on Saturday night at about 11:00PM, a time when they should be as busy as they're going to get. There are a lot of strobe lights and blaring music. The next thing that hits you as you enter is a kind of musty dank basement smell. Much of the furniture looked like it came from a fire sale at the Salvation Army. None of it matched and it much of it may have actually been from the 70's. There was kind of a fraternaty house basement vibe to the place. There were 7 staff memebers on duty and about thirty customers. The most interesting thing that happened during our thirty minutes there was that the pool table went on the fritz. I brought my little video camera so you can see Flashback for yourself. Enjoy!

This guy didn't do too well on his geometry test...

Floored!

Visible progress is now being made in converting the former spare bedroom - also known as the dog room to the new office. We've painted, ripped out the carpet and now started laying hardwood to match the rest of the wood in the house.

Here's a snap to show a little bit of it all:

The piece below between the doorway took over an hour to construct. It is roughly 30 inches long and goes from ~1.75 inches wide at one end to ~2.125 inches wide at the other. Mitre saw.. No, Table saw.. No. It took a Circular Saw, 2 clamps and a jig. Turned out pretty well though.

Best Ben & Jerry's Flavor EVER

There really isn't a bad Ben & Jerry's flavor. Over the years some of my favorites have been Chubby Hubby, Festivas, and Phish Food. Well now there's a new champ. Créme Brülée. It's a simple blend of sweet custard ice cream and carmelized sugar, but trust me, there's something special about that carmelized sugar swirl. You must try it.

McDonald's New Cinnamon Melts

I tried the new cinnamon roll at McDonald's. They call it Cinnamon Melts but seem to be confused about whether it is a Melt or a Melts. On an official McDonald's website they say:

"Now available at your local McDonald's Cinnamon Melts What is a Cinnamon Melt? The Cinnamon Melt are the heart of the cinnamon roll, with a sticky cinnamon sugar glaze; they are gooey and delicious!"

Burger King made the "just the best part of the cinnamon roll" claim about their cini-minis product a few years back. I never bought into it because I believe the goodness of the interior of the cinnamon roll can only exist in conjunction with the exterior of the roll. If you cut away the exterior, part of the interior then becomes the exterior, has contact with air, and drys out becoming less goey and sticky.

So how does the McDonald's product stack up? I think it's pretty good. I give it a 7 out of a possible 10. It has good cinnamon flavor and is definitely a step up from their old cinnamon roll. This isn't a Cinnabon by any stretch, but it exceeds expectations for a fast food cinnamon roll product. As you can see, it's made up of many bread roll "bubbles" which makes it easy to eat with a fork. The cinnamon and sugar goo cover and bind the bubbles.

On the down side, it's a step up in price from their old cinnamon roll as well. The old roll was 99 cents while this new one was closer to two dollars.

Tech got whipped by UNLV :( Not a huge surprise I guess. In the end, their "Superstar" freshmen who were supposedly NBA bound after 1 year, J. Crittendon and T. Young, where average Freshmen surrounded by way too much hype. The good news, perhaps, is that no NBA team in their right mind would draft either one of them in the first two rounds of the draft so maybe they'll be back and somewhat improved.

Go 'Hawks!

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Georgia Tech may be one of the most dangerous No. 10 seeds in the country.

I'll be honest. I'm just glad they are in the tourney...along with the Hogs and the Hawks! Let's hope the outcome is a little better than the last time they played UNLV in the tourney...or their last trip to Las Vegas for that matter.

From ESPN...

Hot No. 10: Georgia Tech coach Paul Hewitt said earlier Sunday that he wasn't sure whether the Yellow Jackets were going to get a bid. But he said that if they did, he was convinced they could win a few games because Tech's younger players are in a groove. As a No. 10 seed, Georgia Tech might not be the favorite against seventh-seeded UNLV on Friday in Chicago, but it certainly could be a hot choice to get to the Sweet 16 with a struggling second-seeded Wisconsin potentially on deck in round 2.

Hopefully there will be cause to produce a Jayhawks 2007 Sweet 16, Elite 8, or Final 4 shirt.

Close but no Cigar

In the immortal words of Thomas Dolby's classic tune, the Indians came close..."Close but no Cigar" in the Sun Belt Championship Game against North Texas. They are now hoping NIT...let's hope Georgia Tech doesn't join them...

Failed American Dream Resurfaces...Briefly

No, I'm not talking about some guy selling his boat alongside Highway 63. I'm talking about a new 70's themed dance club opening soon in the basement of the building I live in. You can see their new fancy banner with the bell bottom clad afro hair style dancer.

Access to the fancy new dance club is down these stairs, which are still emblazoned with logos from the last guy's failed dream, a sports bar called "THE DUGOUT" which has been out of business for several years now.

Here is the entry way to the new 70's dance spot, or is it the entry way to hell? Heck, is there really any difference?

Ok, so here's the new contest. Assuming this place is going to open in the next few weeks, who can guess when it will close up for good? Here are a few points to help you with your analysis:

Pros:
1. Unique concept
2. Only open 4 nights a week
3. Good location near downtown
4. Not serving food, only booze (from what I've heard)

Cons:
1. Concept sucks
2. Disco went out with the 70's
3. It's in a basement
4. Not serving food, only booze (from what I've heard)
5. Most people hate to dance

Find my guess for belly up date in the comments. Please add yours too!

Snowy Joey

A big flaked snow dump began tonight. I got a couple of shots for you warm climate sun lovers to check out. It sucks on the ground but it's pretty coming down!
