Scottsbluff, NE Memories!

Bill took a recent trip to Scottsbluff from work and shared some iconic memories from the area.  Chimney Rock - now featuring lights at night, is perhaps the most iconic thing in the area.

Ash Hollow, NE was famous, for us anyway, because of the boots placed on the fenceposts around the area of the state park.  It also indicated that we were finally starting to get close to Jeff and Casey's house after the long drive from Omaha.

Go Big Red!

Elle is loving her (and my) Nebraska gear.  I bought the hat out of necessity when I visited Bill for his 50th birthday party.  We went to the Husker-Wisconsin game and it was cold!!!

Jack and Dad Take a Trip!

Jack and I had our "trip of firsts" that included his first major league baseball game where we saw the Giants come back to beat the Rockies.   Jack had fun at the game as the Giants do a great job of making the park kid friendly with cable cars, slides and other play areas.

We even watched a little baseball!

We then end to Nebraska (via Kansas City :( ) and got some good cousin time in while also catching Jack's first college football game! Sadly a UCLA victory that left the Husker faithful somewhat up in arms

.

The game wasn't the typical "sea of red" as Nebraska had designated new black uniforms be worn and fans were asked to follow suit. That, of course, was a boon to the t-shirt shops!

Jack enjoys a Giants Dog!
Here are a few stray shots from the trip
.

After the baseball game, we went to Fort Mason in San Francisco which offers some great views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate! We even discovered something even more rare...free parking!

The new basketball arena which has sparked a whole new area of development in Lincoln. We found stumbled across a great ice cream place in the hay-market!

Here we are in our Wal-Mart attire as the luggage still hadn't arrived from Omaha.

Whoa! Jack!!!  The train is coming.

UFO Over Nebraska?

I saw this thing whizzing around the skies today over some of the most desolate country in the world. I snapped a few pictures with my phone and couldn't believe the images. What in the heck is this thing?

Clifford and Michigan State???

Today was football day at school to celebrate the new season upon us.  Steph and I were a little appalled to see that Jack has outgrown everything but his Michigan State gear (of which there is a constant stream coming in courtesy of Aunt Jasper and Grandpa DeBruyn).   So Michigan State it was!  Go Sparties!

Elle, who owns no football gear, decided to celebrate by hopping on Clifford (the big red dog - implying she's rooting for Nebraska undoubtedly)

Steph and I will be placing some orders for Georgia Tech and Michigan clothing later today!

Huskers Shucked

After their loss in the Big 12 Championship the Huskers were screwed when it comes to bowl games...heading back to the Holiday to face Washington... here's the write-up. Heck - even the Georgia Tech - Air Force match up in the Independence Bowl is more interesting. Please note that it is no longer the Poulan Weed-eater Independence Bowl... but rather the Advocare V100 Independence Bowl (Yes...I'm serious...more on bowls in a different post though...)

The New Big 12???

Stronger and stronger signals point to Nebraska joining the Big 10 and become its 12th member within a few days. This could mean the end of the real Big 12. Here's the ESPN article from today:

The Big Ten is poised to expand to 12 teams, as Nebraska will apply for admission to the conference in the next few days, sources tell ESPN.com.

A source with knowledge of the Big Ten's plans tells me Nebraska should be a new member of the league by the end of the weekend. The formal application process likely has started or soon will begin, the source said, and Nebraska then would need at least eight votes from the Big Ten's Council of Presidents/Chancellors to gain admittance. Getting the votes should be more or less a formality.

I'm also told that right now, no other candidates are imminent to join the Big Ten. That means Missouri is far from a lock. Notre Dame? The Big Ten is prepared to move forward without the Irish for now.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said Sunday that expansion could happen in phases. Nebraska is certainly Phase 1, but others could follow in the coming weeks and months.

We'll have much more on Nebraska in the next few days, as a formal announcement should be coming soon. I think Nebraska would be a very strong addition to the league, which will be able to split into divisions and have a championship game.

Fighter jets fly over Husker game.

I was at the Husker vs. Louisiana Lafayette football game last week and caught these supersonic jets flying over with my cell phone video cam.

Football Attire is In!

The new gear for the upcoming season is in. After sporting Michigan duds last year Jack will be donning Georgia Tech this year. Arkansas State may have their best team in a long time though it may be hard to tell with their record at the end of the season. We'll be catching the Nebraska - Arkansas State game in only one month!

As you might recall from a previous post two years back - this is the year Nebraska plays in two conferences. Obviously the Big 12 - but they are likely to be able to claim the Sun Belt title regardless of their Big 12 season as they play 3 home games against Sun Belt opponents!!!

New Huskers Shirt

Football season is right around the corner. I was milling around the Nebraska Bookstore today when I came across the shirt I'll be wearing to the Husker games this year...at least to the games where I'm cheering for the Huskers. It's a vintage style shirt. It's a great reminder of how much better the old Herbie Husker is than the new lousy version of the mascot they're trying to pass off these days.
