London in Food!

While I sadly did not get to visit London proper (we stayed around Heathrow Airport) I was able to visit several pubs during the evening (on foot)

The first was a a true small pub so I scored Guinness and the "Pie of the Day"

The second was a bit more upscale where I got a nice crusted fish.

I also scored the Colorado version of the "Black Velvet" which is half hard cider (on the bottom) and half Guinness floated over it on the top.  It is tricky to make.  Start by pouring the cider in the ultimate glass you will use.  Then fill a separate glass half full with Guinness.  Once the Guinness settled down a bit, carefully more it over a spoon onto the cider.  Pour too quickly and they mix and you don't get the half and half effect shown below.

I Googled the Black Velvet and learned the London version is a bit different... it is a beer cocktail made from a combination of stout and white sparkling wine. The drink was first made by a bartender of Brooks's Club in London in 1861 to mourn the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Prince Consort.

Above the class fish and chips.
