College Baseball Post-season Kicks Off!

Regional action kicks off in a few days... Among teams we root for Georgia Tech is strongest as they host a regional in Atlanta. Arkansas goes to Oklahoma as a #2 seed. Nebraska, who has been strong in recent years, stays home after a losing record.

Anything happens in baseball so don't expect to see either the Jackets or the Hogs heading off to Omaha...

Memorial Day Baby!

Jack had a good day despite the fact that we think he's getting his back molars in. Otherwise, the kid has a serious drooling problem!

We took a little field trip to Folsom Lake, which seems to have peaked for the season today at ~943K acre feet of storage vs. a capacity of 977K...meaning the lake is nearly full after a few years of being well below.

Here are a few snaps from the short hike with Mom and Dad

Sapp Brothers

Anyone who has ever gone driving around Omaha with Mom will know that she's always had a fondness for the iconic Sapp Brothers water tower situated on I-80 West of Omaha. Last week I happened to be fueling up at that particular truck stop with Mom in the car, so I took the opportunity to snap her photo under the giant coffee pot.

The Storms are Gone

The storms have blown through and we had some nice clouds a few weeks back.

The really detailed viewer will note I have a dust spec I need to clean off of my camera's CCD.

Grandpa Bill Comstock's Work Address

This was in the old jewelery box Grandpa made for Granny... I searched the address and don't even think it is valid any more.

Ben & Jerry's Gingersnap

For awhile there, it was looking like the Ben & Jerry's flavor creators had lost their mojo. Honestly, we really haven't seen them hit it out of the park with any new flavor since Creme Brulee launched more than a year ago. Well, the drought is over. The new Gingersnap flavor is a B&J's masterstroke! The best part is that it conjures the ghost of the greatest B&J's flavor to ever be retired to the flavor graveyard. Of course I'm talking about Festivus, the Seinfeld inspired gingerbread cookie flavored cream. If anyone from Ben & Jerry's happens to read this, please do the world a favor and take the "Limited Batch" tag off of Gingersnap. This flavor deserves to be permanent.

Happy Mother's Day From One Corny Baby

We had friends over for a BBQ last night and as we were eating Jack spied Momma eating an ear of corn. He immediately started saying "Na-na" and pointing at it. Steph thought he wanted a banana so she went and got him one. He wanted nothing to do with the real banana and kept pointing at the corn.

She finally gave it to him and he went to town devouring it in short order.

Who would have thought the baby's first cobbed corn experience would be met with such enthusiasm.

Third Largest Blog in Nebraska on Gamedays

Here's a good blog (especially if you are Nebraska fan) that claims to become the Third Largest Blog in Nebraska on Gamedays. He makes a long and detailed arguement that 2010 will be the year Palini and the Huskers make it back to the elite of the BCS...

The post is in his May 1 blog post just below the red lipstick wearing Nebraska fan. Let's just hope Bill doesn't become this guy in 10 years!

Pepsi Throwback - Reviewed

I saw a few Tivo'd adds for this stuff earlier this week and was curious enough to actually stop fast-forwarding and watch the adds. Curiously - this Pepsi Throwback product features sugar! As opposed to high-fructose corn syrup. Supposedly there is a Mountain Dew Throwback too but that's a different blog post.

When I saw an "8-pack" at Target I had to snap it up and try it.

My take: Good. It didn't seem as dark as regular pepsi and it definitely wasn't as sweet which was good. I'd say pick up some Pepsi Throwback before it disappears in a month or two.

Fathead Jayhawk

Erin's Uncle Scott sent us a very nifty wedding gift. The part of the gift tailored to me was this giant Jayhawk Fathead graphic. I'll be putting the small Hawk head and KU up at work, but as you can see, the giant Jayhawk is looking good in my home office! For some reason, Erin wouldn't let me put it up in the kitchen or living room.

The Weasel

Most toddler-types have a favorite stuffed animal of sorts they like to lug around and/or sleep with. More often than not these animals are bears...maybe puppies. There's a kid at Jack's school with an affinity towards a bunny blankie.

Jack has received numerous stuffed animal gifts that could be suitable candidates: bears, penguins, bunnies, giraffes,... you name it... Among all of these, he has chosen a stuffed weasel to be his best friend and crib partner. Perhaps the only kid to have a weasel for a best "stuffed" friend.

He comes by this through his mother - who's preference was simply for a plain blanket which she named of Reddie (guess the color of the blanket!) which she eventually sewed pockets onto.

Russ Jones: Chainsaw Artist

Our friend Russ Jones has an impressive collection of chainsaws. He used to just cut firewood, but he has developed an amazing talent for creating art out of logs. The first two pictures below show some of his recent work. The final picture is of a Buddha that Russ created very early in his chainsaw art career. Russ considered the Buddha somewhat of a failure, but I always liked it. He agreed to give the Buddha to me and it now has a prized spot in our back yard. It has been dubbed, "The Buddha of the Lake".
