We actually had to research marzipan to figure out what it was. Strangely, after reading about it, we're still not sure what it is. Here's the best description we could find:
"Marzipan is a confection consisting primarily of sugar and almond meal. It derives its characteristic flavor from bitter almonds, which constitute 4% to 6% of the total almond content by weight. Some marzipan is also flavored with rosewater."
Mission to Marzipan hits your tongue with a strongly flavored almond extract bite that rings a little weird. Maybe this is how marzipan always tastes. Who knows? At any rate, I'd say this flavor is for marzipan fans only, assuming marzipan fans exist.

this marzipan fan says thanks for the tip. i am holding back from going to the grocery store right now. what you describe, taste-wise, is exactly what i would expect of such a thing. it is a curious choice for B&J, no question. hopefully next up: Campari Crunch!
If marzipan fans exist? Of course we do! You can get excellent marzipan online from http://www.marzipancandies.com among other places. Marzipan means "March Bread" from "Marz Pane" and does have a very distinct flavor. Legend has it that a drought left a kingdom with only almonds, so the King ordered them crushed and sweetened to give his subjects hope. I can't wait to try this ice cream! Thanks for the review.
I thought this ice cream was awesome. But I do like marzipan. And I thought the almond cookie chunks were so good.

Marzipan is wonderful, and B&J's Mission to Marzipan is my favorite flavor of all time. I've always got a pint in my freezer now. I love this stuff!
The Mission to Marzipan is awesome. What the blogger finds unusual about the flavor and texture is what I like about this flavor. The bloggers comments make me wonder if their taste and knowledge of food is limited.
There is a chocolate bar from Germany called Ritter Sport that makes a dark chocolate with marzipan filling. It is my favorite candy bar. Heavenly. I get it at Target.
