Halloween Haul! 2018 Edition

A strong haul for the kids mostly driven by Jack!  He leveraged his running skills and ran solo through the neighborhood with me trailing behind monitoring.

This is the first year I recall packaged Dove bars (top left).  Twix seem down.  Hershey's, Reese's and M&M's are holding their own.

Candy Corn flavored M&Ms = Avoid!

I did not like these at all. They were sweet to an extreme and had a strange flavor. If you really want to mix the flavor of candy corn and M&M I suggest you do it naturally by grabbing one of each and popping them in your mouth. The Candy Corn flavored M&Ms are to be avoided!

Jack's Candy Haul! Halloween 2012

We went trick or treating at more houses than ever last night and Jack came away with a nice haul. Elle, who did her best to keep up, did almost as well if not better as a lot of the kids got "extra" candy for her.
Note he even scored a toothbrush and toothpaste!

Hershey's Air Delight

Hershey's has injected their chocolate with air to create the air delight bar. Seems like these air whipped candies are more often seen in Europe. Not bad if you're in the mood for a little air with your chocolate.

Coconut Twix

We saw the new Coconut Twix in a Chicago drugstore and gave it a shot. It's like a regular Twix, but with coconut flavored caramel. It has a decent coconut flavor, but ultimately we felt that the "limited edition" stamp was well placed.

Bacon Bar!

I must admit I didn't try this because it was so spendy but I'm hoping to one day when I'm feeling flush. In the interim, here's the snap...

Pretzel M&M's

Every year we've been to the Berkshire Hathaway meeting, they've been promoting the newest candies from M&M's Mars, often times before the product hits the mainstream market. This year, the new candy I'd never seen before was Pretzel M&M's. They're kind of like almond bark covered pretzels, except they're better because they're made with real chocolate instead of a palm oil derivative like most almond bark. Pretzel M&M's are pretty good, but I found them to be a little light and airy. Also, there didn't seem to be very many in the bag. They're nice for a change, but these won't take the place of classic plain M&M's in my book.

Twix Java

This is a good bar if you like coffee flavored caramel. I would describe this as a regular Twix with the addition of coffee flavor. If you like regular Twix and you like coffee you might like this. If you've ever enjoyed eating a regular Twix while drinking coffee, you might like this. If you could subtract the coffee flavoring out of this, you would end up with something like a regular Twix.

New Milky Way, 3 Musketeers

The new Milky Way does away with the nougat, so it's just caramel covered with chocolate. It's an amazingly dense bar because of this. It's a winner if you're a caramel fan, but you can't eat too many of these if you want to keep that new year's resolution.

The second new bar here is the 3 Musketeers Truffle Crisp. It comes with two sticks, much like a Twix bar. I didn't expect much from this, but Erin and I both thought this one was great. It's got a great crispness and a tasty flavor, plus two people can easily split it for a lower calorie chocolate snack.

Reindeer or Rabbit?

As I was browsing the holiday candy at Walgreens, I noticed what at first glance appeared to be some chocolate Easter bunnies. Upon closer inspection, I determined that they were in fact chocolate reindeer. Of course, the only way you could tell the two apart is by the writing on the package. I guess someone at the Lindt company decided that that foil wrapped bunny looked enough like a reindeer that they would just go with it and not change the design.

Three Ts and a Lolly

Jack with Uncle Bill and Dad on Bill and Erin's recent trip.

He also enjoyed his first lollipop ever the same evening and seemed to enjoy it.

The Most Wonderful Time of The Year

The post Christmas sale on Holiday Candy. I scored two interesting items at the local Longs Drugs at 75% off.

Ghirardelli Holiday Chocolates which include two new flavors I haven't yet tried: Pecan Pie and Eggnog. Both get good marks as you would expect. The flavors are right and not too strong or too weak.

I haven't yet gotten up the courage to break into the Strikin' Strawberry Candy Canes featuring a chewy center but maybe soon!
