Cream Cheese Pizza

I've heard about cream cheese pizza for awhile and I finally tried it. As near as I can tell, this is a Nebraska thing kind of like Runza. It is available at all the local or small regional chain pizza places here and at none of the national places. So what is it? Think of a pepperoni pizza then take away the pepperoni and replace it with chunks of cream cheese. These chunks go below the layer of melted mozarella. You can also add other toppings but what Erin and I ordered was just plain cream cheese pizza.

This is a picture of the pie as delivered to our table.

Here I rolled back the mozarella with my fork to expose the cream cheese underneath. I think it starts out as chunks and then melts when cooked.

Is it any good? Well, that's subjective. Lots of people swear by this stuff around here. I didn't really love it myself, but I can understand why some do. It's very rich and creamy. I personally prefer my cream cheese to be cold and on a bagel.

California Thanksgiving

The locals didn't quite know what was going on when our friends Dave and Katrina arrived for Thanksgiving. We promptly set up the turkey fryer at the end of the driveway, cracked some beers, put on some Johnny Cash and got to work.

Meanwhile, Steph was inside using her "Rotato" for the first time. The thing can peel a potato in mere seconds.

The frying drew folks from around the neighborhood. Our friend Buckley even made a return visit to lick at some of the oil spillage.

The final bird was a sight to behold:

Dessert was pumpkin cheesecake, pecan pie and fudge. Even little Brandon got to try a bit. We all had similar expressions on our faces after the meal.

It was so good Steph and Kat had to serenade baby Brandon with the Violent Femmes' Blister in the Sun to get him to calm down.

All in all - a fantastic Thanksgiving.

Hip Hop Happy Thanksgiving!

Huskers Beat Missouri: The Shirt

Well here we go again. Another Husker pride type shirt hailing what should be considered a routine victory.
I'm personally looking for the shirt that will allow me to proudly boast the Husker victory over Nicholls State.

A Good Wiikend

As you may recall, I had a new Nintendo Wii preordered. The Wiis were dispensed last night at midnight. I placed a couple of temporary Wii tattoos on my hands to fit in with the other video game geeks.

Most of these folks had a unit preordered as I did, but some were hoping there would be some extras. There weren't. Upon finding this out one guy quickly made a run for Circuit City.

They doled out the units in order of preorder numbers. I was dead last.

At last, I secured my very own Wii.

I haven't played a ton yet, but I must say that overall the thing seems to be very high quality. I hooked up to my wifi network with no trouble and the "Wii-mote" works incredibly well. The sports games are an absolute blast. I'll probably bring this thing home at Christmas so everyone can try it.

Kitchen Work in CA

The last two weeks of my vacation were spent hanging around working on kitchen related activities. We've been talking about replacing the 15 year old tile for some time and figured now was the time. We decided to go with granite. One thing to keep in mind - it's hard to just replace your counters - we ended up replacing the cooktop, the sink, the backsplash, the faucet and the waster disposer too. Here's a snap of the destruction in process:

And the finished kitchen...

The Duffle

I was walking Yuki this afternoon in a field underneath a bridge. This field doesn't have any pedestrian traffic and so it's the perfect place for Yuki to run around freely. As Yuki ran about, I noticed a duffle bag stashed under a small pine.

I hoped the duffle would contain $50,000 in unmarked twenty dollar bills. I suspected the duffle might contain illegal drugs.

In fact the duffle contained some homeless guy's change of clothes. Two t-shirts, some underwear, and a newspaper from September.

I decided to do this guy a favor since I think it's pretty cool to stash a duffle under a pinetree. I put together a goody bag full of snacks and even a twenty dollar bill.

I put it all in a twist tied plastic bag and returned to the hiding place where I stashed it in the duffle.

I hid the duffle back under the tree, taking care to hide it a little better than the last time. I used some leaves as camouflage.

I'll be checking back every couple of days to see if the if the duffle disappears or remains. If it's still there in a couple of weeks I may decide to reclaim the twenty.

Happy Birthday to Me!

So far so good, as the money gods allowed me to find 40¢ on the ground during my Yuki walk tonight. This is a picture of the impressive line up of gifts from Erin.

Money on the ground

Nine buckaroo at once is a quality find. I had a good day today, finding 36 cents. The coins in the picture total $11.36. This is everything I have found since 1/1/05.

Big Find

One of Dad's hobbies is finding money on the ground. Tonight, while walking Yuki, I too took up this hobby finding nine dollars on the sidewalk. Score!

Worth Bragging About?

I noticed this t-shirt in the Nebraska Bookstore today. Now it seems to me that if the Huskers knocked off USC or Texas then this kind of shirt would be merited, but for barely beating the lowly Jayhawks? Maybe in hoops.

Congratulations

Congratulation Dad on a nice campaign even though you didn't prevail. I say you fire your canine campaign manager.

Husker Homecoming

The standard campus loop hike that Yuki and I take each night takes us past many of the Nebraska frat houses. Over the last week we've seen students working with chicken wire and crepe paper to make homecoming displays. Tonight I brought the camera along to take a few snaps. The theme is some kind of Husker carnival or circus I guess. Let's hope the Huskers whip, beat, and cage the Tigers on the football field like they do in these displays.

Desolation Wilderness, California - November 1, 2006 - Happy Birthday Kodak!

Happy Birthday Kodak! The 'dak turned 10 today. Since Steph had to go to Santa Clara for a 2 day meeting I loaded the beagles up for another one of our occasional visits to Desolation Wilderness in Tahoe.

Not a bad looking dog for 10!

We were hit bet several sudden snow flurries at 8,000 feet+ during the hike. It's what you would expect in November. The highest point we peaked was 8,400 (courtesy of Nuvi)

The rapidly changing weather brought some interesting shades of blue to Lake Tahoe and Granite Lake...can you guess which is which? :)

After a side trip to Crystal Lake/Falls we headed back but caught this nice snap of Emerald Bay. The weather had settled down and with no boats the water was smooth.

After a long hike it was hard to stop Ranger from having a sip out of Granite Lake.
