Coca-Cola Blãk

I read about Coke Blãk awhile ago, but this weekend was the first time I saw it. It's coffee coke basically. It's expensive. I paid $5.99 for a 4 pack at Target. At Wal-Mart it was more that $6.00. It has a very nice coffee flavor which exists alongside the normal Coke taste. I really like the stuff. Good for a caffeine boost. Oddly, it contains sugar (high fructose corn syrup) AND aspartame which might lump it into the category of hybrid mid calorie drinks like CK1 or the failed Pepsi Edge. It contains 45 calories per 8 ounce bottle.

Mathematician

Mathematician Has Popular Equation Stuck In Head All Day

July 26, 2000 | Issue 36•25

CAMBRIDGE, MA–MIT mathematics professor Dr. Charles J. Chang has had the Pythagorean Theorem, a popular mathematical equation, running through his head all day, he reported Monday. "I overheard one of my colleagues discussing it with a student this morning, and ever since, I haven't been able to shake the damn thing," Chang said of the simple theorem, which is used to calculate the hypotenuse of a right triangle. "The weird thing is, I'm not even all that into Pythagoras–I mainly read Boolean and Quadratic–but it's just so catchy." Chang has made numerous attempts to get the theorem out of his head, including reading all of E.H. Spanier's Algebraic Topology and calculating the circumferences of various circles.

This Weeks New Stuff

After being absent for several years, Godfather's Pizza has again opened in Kearney with a new store very close to my house. Had some of their pie tonight and it's very tasty!

A new kind of Skittle is in stores! Limited "Ice Cream" edition Skittles feature flavors like chocolate, vanilla, orange vanilla swirl, strawberry. My favorite is caramel ripple flavor. Bucky says check 'em out!

Finally, Robert and Steph really seem to be into the music dvds. So while doing a little shopping at Big K today, I couldn't resist the Def Leppard dvd featuring 20 music videos and lots of bonus material for $9.99. Looks and sounds great on the projector!

Sonoma Valley Dogs

We stayed in a guest house of a private residence on a mountain overlooking Sonoma. It was very pretty!

In some knick-knack shop in Sonoma, this dog seemed to be lounging around every day.

This is a dog we dubbed "Baily" although later inspection revealed her name to be "Nala". She belonged to the owner of the residence where we stayed.

Victrola Record Player

This week-end, while in Sonoma for the filmfest, I meandered into an antique shop and discovered a 1923 Victrola VV-80 record player. A fairly common record player in its day, Steph and I were both intrigued so we decided to snap it up. Bill hauled the thing back to Sacramento for us in the back of his Chevy Aveo and we got it working. While we don't know much about using the thing we're able to get music out of it.

It has a metal plate on it that says Wurlitzer San Francisco. I'm not sure if that signifies that the things was bought at a Wurlitzer store in San Francisco???

Anyway, we like the thing.

Convergence!!!

It was a banner week-end from a family perspective as numerous different activites drove family from around the U.S. to Northern California.

We were able to visit with Jason and Karen for the first time since their wedding several years back. Here's a snap of the three cousins followed by one with their better halfs in front of Colibri, the excellent Mexican Bistro Karen and Jason picked out for lunch:

Bill was in to present his documentary "Starbucking" at the Sonoma Valley Film Festival. The movie was well-received as evidence by high attendance and no walk-outs at both showings during the event. Mom was in town as well visiting. If Dad and Jenny could have made it things would have been nearly complete!

Dark Chocolate Fever Spreading

This time the boys at Twix are getting in on the action!!! It was a good bar.

Street performer

We met a street performer on the 16th Street Mall in Denver. He walked like a robot and hounded passers by for money.

New Bike

I got a new bike. It came last week. It's a Gary Fisher "Rig". It's a single speed mountain bike with 29 inch wheels. 29 is bigger than the wheels on a normal mountain bike so it's more forgiving over bumps and curbs. It's a single speed bike. No shifting, very simple. Disc brakes. Front shocks. It's a blast to ride!
